Growing your own

About a month ago, i bought some growbags, wood, soil and plants. Lots and lots of plants. And they're growing. Had some salad from the lettuce already.

I'm having to water the damn things every day, but the tomato plants are shooting up, the runner beans are living up to their name.

It's such a lovely thing to see things growing. All that verdant and lush greenery. But what really delights me is that i'm growing these, i'm going to eat them and no doubt pickle and preserve them. But there's pride in growing my own, and yes, the growbags, plants, soil and all the rest did cost some money, but from late august right through to the end of the year i'm going to have a steady supply of fresh vegetables, and interesting ones too. I'm not tied to what the supermarkets think i want to eat.

Also it means that i can live up to my fantasies of "The Good Life" - i always thought i was Margo, but the grin on my face when i'm up to my elbows in dirt, or covered in water because the hose has gone mad, i think my affinity is more with Barbara...
